My Choreography Stimulus

The stimulus me and my group are using to create our group choreography, is an image of a brain with lines connecting from the brain to several emojis with different expressions. Me and my group chose this stimulus by using four different images and individually voting for the image we liked the most, this was a very beneficial way to decide our stimulus as it avoided any issues in the group. My initial thoughts of the picture was, the variety of emotions we have and how we might portray them to others, but also how social media impacts our well being and the way we behave. This idea came from the emotions of the emojis and how it incorporated the technology aspect of how we might feel about social media’s positive and negative factors. I believe this image also represents different personalities and how others clash because of their own personal traits, this is shown through the several emojis in the picture which may vary from person to person.

The message of our piece is to portray raising awareness for Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). The disorder was previously called Multiple Personality Disorder which is a mental disorder that causes disruptions of memory, awareness or identity (Multiple Personality Disorder: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment, 2016). As a group we decided to choose this theme through another vote, we had six different themes which were; Privacy, social media, society’s expectations, mental health, technology and understanding others emotions. These topics all have links to the stimulus and were all thought of through a method of starting with our chosen image and expanding on the picture into greater detail of how we viewed it personally as well as a group. Added on to this one specific disorder we will be including other sorts of mental health issues to do with social media and individual insecurities, this will include more research on different types of mental disorders so that we can branch out and explore other people’s experiences. As a group we think it’s really important to look at how social media impacts not only our selves but also others around us because in this modern day we are constantly depending on technology and are always surrounded by it. We are using extra topics like communication over social media and how people may use various tones and emojis to mask how they really feel.

  1. Hi Liv, well done this is a great Blog. I found the structure really easy to follow and read! I like how you went into a lot of detail on your personal thoughts of what the chosen stimulus meant to you and included the main theme of DID and how as a group we came to this decision. Perhaps next time you could include a picture of he chosen stimulus to reference so we can refer to the picture when reading the description :)

  2. Hi Olivia I liked how you described what DID is as this gives more context to the rest of the blog. Maybe in future posts you can add an image of the stimulus even though you did a great job of describing it. But well done!

  3. Hi Liv, I really like how much detail you went into about the message we’re trying to give off in the piece, along with the different interpretations of the stimulus you gave. Maybe in the future you could describe the stimulus a little bit more or add the photo.

  4. This is a great blog and I like your brief description on DID. Can we see some research between social media and the influence on mental health that you talk about. Your image isn't loading at the moment and could you check the wording for grammar.
